Points for Parents (P2-P6)

1.    School time
•    Children should not be at school before 8.20, as there is no supervision.
•    Parents who come to school during the last block are asked to wait in the main hall downstairs to enable teachers to carry out their lessons undisturbed.
•    Children need to be collected at 15:25, as there is no supervision after this.
•    The school is not responsible for any transport arrangements after school, such as bus or taxi.
2.    Attendance
•    Regular attendance is very important for children’s educational development.
•    If a student is ill, the parents/guardians need to complete a form for justified absences, which should be turned in to the form teacher within 3 school days after returning to school (see Appendix 1 in Primary Handbook).  Otherwise, it will be regarded as unexcused absence. P5-P6 parents may send an excuse note via the E-Register, which will be in official use beginning September, 2011.
•    Appointments with doctors should be arranged after school. For PE, a medical excuse is required in advance if a student is absent for health reasons. A medical excuse for P.E. for a semester /year has to be given to the form teacher by the 16th of September.  Otherwise, absenteeism during P.E. lessons will be regarded as an unexcused absence.
•    The school calendar should be consulted while planning holidays so students do not miss lessons.
3.    Food
•    To encourage healthy eating, we ask that children do not eat sweets before lunch, so as to avoid spoiling their appetite. This is part of our PSHE – Personal, Social Health Education programme. Please note that foods like Kinder Sandwiches or doughnuts are considered sweets.
•    Please prepare packed lunches and drinks for your children for the first week of school. The catering company has changed and we are hoping more pupils will enjoy hot meals. Lunches consisting of one hot main dish will be provided from Monday, the 12th of September, at a cost of 5,50 PLN.
4.    School materials
•    Students need to bring their pencil cases every day. We recommend using plastic covers on exercise books for IPC, English, Maths, etc.
•    It is important to check that children have their P.E. or swimming gear on the right days. Students should have a plastic bag for flip flops for swimming. P.E. gear (shorts and a T-shirt) will be provided by the end of September.
•    All Primary children have to bring indoor shoes.
•    Parents of P4-P6 students should check and sign Homework Diaries regularly to be well-informed about their homework. Children need to bring their Homework Diaries to school every day.
5.    Lockers
•    These should contain only essential things, e.g., outdoor shoes, school bag, P.E. gear.
•    Books should be kept on shelves in the classrooms.
•    No valuables should be brought to school, e.g., expensive toys, PSPs, gameboys, iPods, jewellery.
•     Mobiles are only for emergencies. They should not normally be used in school. If a student falls ill at school, the parents/guardians will be informed so they can decide what action should be taken. The child will wait in the classroom for whomever is picking them up.
•    Food should not be stored in lockers. Pupils should take their lunch boxes to class in the morning. Any uneaten food has to be taken home at the end of the day.
6.    Lessons
•    At the beginning of each IPC unit, a letter to parents will be sent via email giving specific information about the areas to be covered.
•    There are no P.E. lessons during the 5th block for the P5 and P6 students any longer.  Swimming classes will take place during the 4th block.
•    If parents are willing to hold a birthday party, it must be arranged after school and outside school premises. However, a small birthday treat may be brought to school, provided parents contact the teacher beforehand.
7.    Playground
•    Pupils can spend half of each break in their classroom to eat.
•    The teacher on duty with P2 checks if they have proper clothes (hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) and outdoor shoes. Please make sure that your child is prepared for going outside. Even if a child is inappropriately dressed, they will be sent outside regardless of the missing garment.
•    All Primary children must go to the playground in winter, weather permitting, in accordance with PSHE and SIS policy. If a student is unable to go outside, they should not be sent to school.
•    In case of heavy snowfall or extreme cold, students will be reminded about putting on proper clothes, such as ski-outfits, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. The Primary coordinator may decide to keep students inside, in their classrooms.
8.    Trips
•    We strongly suggest that children are insured yearly for any trips outside school.
•    We recommend school IDs for new students. One will be prepared in the office if the form teacher is provided with a photo of the child. Form teachers will collect photographs until Friday, September 9th.
•    Passports might be needed at some point, so all pupils should have one.
9.    Additional information
•    The weekly newsletter and the school calendar are available on our website: www.sis.info.pl
•    The e-register will be in use for P5-D1 parents and students. It will not be used by P1-P4 teachers.
•    More specific information regarding all classes will be given during Parent Teacher Meeting on September 8th (Thursday). This meeting is compulsory.
